If you are one of those who have been affected by acne, you must have thought why do you get so many pimples and scars in the first place? The most common reason of acne is known to be the overproduction of oil and blocked hair follicles. Skin produces essential oils that keep the outer layer of our skin smooth and healthy. Blocked hair follicles do not let the excess oil out leads to clogged pores and acne eventually. Some other factors like hormonal imbalance and unhealthy diet habit can also cause acne. Once acne appears on your skin, you don’t seem to stop it due to various reasons. Here are 5 the most common reasons that account for worsening acne.

Makeup and skin care products sometimes have such ingredients that can damage your skin or block your pores. If you want to avoid acne, you should buy products that are light on your skin and do not clog your pores.

Our diet has a strong relationship with our overall health and skin too.  We all love eating chocolates, but it is amongst many other food items that cause and worsen acne. Refined grain and sugar-containing food increase insulin levels in your skin that contributes to the development of acne. Using dairy products very often can also worsen acne. Omega 6 Fatty Acids rich foods and spicy foods can also cause breakouts on your skin.

Hair products like shampoo and conditioners contain heavy ingredients like sulphates, moisturizing agents and silicon. These ingredients may be perfect for your hair, but they are not so kind to your skin. A quick tip: always sleep with your hair tied to minimize your skin’s extending contact with your hair.

If you are rubbing and scrubbing your skin too hard, no doubt you are at risk of face worse acne. Be gentle to your skin. Rubbing too hard can activate acne. Softly rub your skin while washing or massaging and pat dry instead of rubbing the towel on your skin.

  1. Smoking

Smoking is wrong in all cases. Other than many health problems it causes, it can create and aggravate acne. Smoker have decreased amount of oxygen that their body absorbs and eventually reaches the skin. The level of collagen and elastin reduces and results in wrinkles and bigger pores. So the best solution is to quit smoking.
